Four of the Wakefield clan — Edward Gibbon, William, Daniel, and his child Selina — are buried in the Bolston Street cemetery. As leading figures in the New Zealand Company and the colonisation of Wellington, the Wakefields were instrumental in creating the pressures that brought about the New Zealand wars.
