British forces rapidly threw up three adjacent fortifications on the Koheroa ridge just south of the Mangatāwhiri Stream after beginning their invasion of the Waikato in July 1863: Eglinton Redoubt, Buckingham Redoubt and the Lower Redoubt. Of the three, only the Eglinton Redoubt can be seen today. Satellite photos show the fortification is in reasonable condition on private land.
