This earthwork fortification dates from the late 1869 campaign against Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki. Evidence suggests the redoubt was initially constructed by Te Kooti's forces in August 1869, before being occupied and modified by the Armed Constabulary and allied Māori.

As of December 2025 the site has entirely returned to bush and is inaccessible.
