In April 1865 the Crown sent a substantial force of colonial militiamen to Pipiriki, where three redoubts were established. Pai Marire Māori besieged the fortifications in July 1865 until word reached Whanganui and a party of settlers and Māori relieved the garrison.
The current condition of the redoubts is unknown.
