Royal Navy New Zealand obelisk

© Mark Littler (WMR-11864)

This Cornish granite obelisk in Cutty Sark Gardens, Greenwich, was erected by officers and men of the Royal Navy to commemorate 21 colleagues who died in New Zealand in 1863–64, during the Waikato War and the fighting at Tauranga. The obelisk features a rope twist carved around its base and a chain around the plinth.
