Pou Tutaki was erected in 1848 by Te Waitere Katatore marking the pale beyond which Pākehā land sales could not extend. The original pou was destroyed by fire in the late 1800s and was replaced in 1940 as part of New Plymouth's centennial celebrations. The pou now stands between Harvey Norman and SH3.
